One of the best ways to connect past learning in PE is to categorize the sport/activity by the type of fitness it falls under.
I know we taught the students about cardio, strength and flexibility workouts at the beginning of the year, but I'm not sure they will realize that body weight workouts are strength training.
Good point, it never hurts to review that. It reminds them of the benefits of strength training, which will help them see why the body weight exercises are good for them too.
Sports skills, rules, scoring systems etc. can also be used to connect past learning.
I think I will remind them of the push-up fitness test we did at the beginning of the year too, and that push-ups are an example of body weight exercises.
That's a great idea the push-up test is what we used to help them determine their upper-body stregth fitness level, so it will remind them that push-ups are strength training exercises.
