Chatting with Mr. Harris by smoreno on 11-15-2009
There is no such thing as being "moderately" religious. Rather, these "moderates" question, lack, or ignore many of the laws a religion is govern by. This proves our society is run by evidence. Logical or scientific facts have to back up what is being claimed. People accept this, thus making them lose faith in faith.
Well, I agree with you that our society looks to evidence and solid facts to believe that something is true or real. Yet, loss of faith could be the result of something else. Perhaps our society is more focused on working, earning money, or spending to buy extravagant goods.
If that is true, then those things are worth importance. We live life to achieve as much as we can; not to worship gods which have done things scientificly impossible. People need to realize faith has no barrier over the success they make in their lives.
Wait. Religion can be a strong factor in people's lives. Religion can make people feel confident about who they are or help them get through the rough patches in life to become successful.
But honestly, do you really believe there is a god that controls this? People make their own luck. A god has no bearing over if a student passes a math test or if the Chicago Bulls win the World Championship. This silly faith in religion only brings down our society by closing our minds to other great possibilites and ideas.
Maybe a god does exist. To be honest with you, I don't know what to believe. I believe there is a god of some form and that people should be good in life, eitherwise it will come back and punch them in the gut, one way or another. Yet, believing in a religion does not harm people; rather, it makes them stronger. People come together and unite over a common belief, which proves to be benfical to almost all who participate.
