True Tales Of Grouchobeer by grouchobeer on 04-14-2008
I grew up in rural Bucks County, PA, and one of our neighbors was Jere Knight, the widow of Eric Knight, author of LASSIE COME HOME. She and my mother became good friends.
Mrs. Knight had a collie that had been given to her by Rudd Weatherwax, trainer of all the Lassies for the movie LASSIE, COME HOME and the subsequent TV series. This dog was a direct descendant of Pal, the star of LASSIE, COME HOME. Periodically, Mrs. Knight would call my mom to say that the dog was lost and my brothers and I would go over and search for him. He would invariably be one field over from his house, but hopelessly lost.
The irony of this never occurred to Mrs. Knight.
