| Hey, Rich! I thought liberals were all against nationalism and sovereignty and bold, manly men protecting weak women. This Ukraine thing has me confused. Why are liberals praising the manly Ukrainian men full of nationalistic pride fighting boldly against Russia? | |
| Well, Hitch, it's all about context, isn't it? If the so-called manly manliness is patriarchal or misogynistic and used against the disadvantaged, it's bad. If the "manliness" is a courageous stance against an unprovoked foreign invader killing your neighbors and out to take your government down, then it's good. | |

| Sounds like a slippery excuse for hypocrisy to me, bro. | |
| No, it's recognizing that an adjective can be used in different situations legitimately. For example, a big cake is good. A big debt is bad. A surgeon skilled with a blade, good. A serial killer skilled with a blade, bad. A man using muscle and courage to protect those more vulnerable: good. A man using that strength to hold down or harm the more vulnerable: bad. | |
