Early Summer by RicardoRomo29 on 03-12-2020
The Question
Hey Ximena, I heard that your parents are pulling you out of school already. We still have about a month and a half of school left. Can’t they wait?
I don’t think it’s a good idea to tell Mrs. Rodriguez that the reason I’m getting pulled out early is to go work the summer crops. I’ll need to come up with something.
The Lie
I’m sorry Mrs. Rodriguez, my Grandfather’s health is declining and my parents need to go care for him. Unfortunately, they cannot leave me alone so I must go with them.
Well Ximena if you must. I’m only worried because you’ve fallen so behind this school year and now you are leaving early. I worry that you are not receiving the best education. Well, I hope your grandfather recovers swiftly.
The Reality
Sometimes I wish I could just stay in school and not have to be pulled out early. There are so many things that I want to learn, but can’t because our family depends on it.
Let’s go Ximena. We just arrived at our first farm. It’s time to get to work so we can survive. I know you didn’t want to leave school, but we need to do this for us. I hope you understand.
