| Punishment is an unpleasant experience, like detention, that makes a undesireable behavior less likely to occur. | |
| And shaping is the gradual increase of what a student must do to get a reinforcement until the desired behavior is reached. | |

Choice theory is an approach to classroom management developed by Dr. William Glasser. According to this theory there are 5 key needs all humans need fulfilled and adressing them reduces undesireable behavior. |
| These needs are (1) Survival: the basic needs of students (i.e. sleep, nourishment). (2)Belonging: the need to feel part of a community and to feel valued. | |
| (3) Power: the need to have choices and responsibilities. (4) Freedom: the need to have a sense of control over ones own destiny | |
| And (5) Fun: the need to experience joy, humor, and personal satisfaction. | |
| And to help find the underlying problem, there are four key questions to ask the student. | |
