John Adams decided to sent three diplomats to France to restore peace between the two countries because France kept seizing American ships. |
 | Go to France and speak to the foreign minister to have peace once again between our nations. | |
 | I will bring two others and leave soon to talk to him Mr. President. | |

In France, the diplomats were avoided by the minister and sent to talk to three French agents about this treaty to stop France's attack on American ships. |
 | Please stop stealing our ships even though they are bringing supplies to Britain. We just want peace between all. | |
 | The only way we stop seizing your ships is if you pay us to do it! Tell that to your President! If we aren't paid, we won't stop doing this! | |

The three diplomats went back to tell Adams about what had happened and demanded war. In 1789, the U.S.A. attacked French ships, having an undeclared naval war, called a Quasi-War |
 | Those rotten French agents demanded money to stop taking our ships! We have got to fight these people. It cannot be avoided. | |
 | We will take away their biggest honor. Their names. They will be called X, Y, and Z. Also, we will add a Department of Navy to be prepared. We will not sit back anymore! | |
