Authoritarian Parenting by slwallen2 on 09-21-2013
Young Cindy wanted nothing more than to tell her mother that she didn't want to play the violin anymore. Facing her mother would be difficult, however, she wanted her to know how she felt.
Cindy, you know not to interupt me while I am working!
Mom, I really need to talk to you.
Already, Cindy knew that this was not going to end well. She could tell by the tone of her mother's voice.
Cindy, enough with this you know your ridiculous ideas will get you nowhere. You are playing the violin and that is the end of it. We are not discussing this anymore.
I really just have no desire to play the violin. I... I... want to be a ballerina.
She goes and tries to talk to her father, but it was no good either. Little Cindy left that day knowing that her dreams would never come true, and she had no say in any of it.
Maybe if I can just convince him...
Cindy, I know what this is about. No you are not quitting the violin. I don't care what you have to say we have put WAY too much money and time into this. Now you will just have to get over it. Go to your room and practice.
