National Standards by Pappi on 03-31-2013
Race To The Top Pushed Common Core National Standards
When states applied for the waivers for NCLB, Common Core Curriculum (CCC) Standards were the only standards available to be met. Wouldn't you say that the 4.35 billion that was given through the Race To The Top (RT3) grants were more than bribery? Wouldn't you say that states were being coerced into adopting the CCC standards by the National DOE?
I would say that the it was up to the states to chooooose whether they wanted the desperately needed money in a time of recession. After all. It is explicitly forbidden by the charter of the National DOE to push standards onto the state and local governments.
The CCC standards will make it easier to assess how different groups are doing. It will apply rigor evenly.
I think that what you mean to say is that it will make it easier to apply a business model approach of merit pay. The Pioneer Institute for Public Policy Research estimates that it will cost the states 16 billion to adopt CCC standards.
In most states that adopted CCC Standards, The state BOE made the decision.
GA recieved $400 million in RT3 funds. Of that, $200 million stayed at the state BOE. I wonder where that money went. Bonuses?!
