Invention of the Printing Press by monsterkid on 03-06-2013
Prior to the 1400s, the Church sought to spread the word of God to many people.
Bishop, how can we share the Bible with many others?
In 1441, Johannes Gutenberg of Mainz, Germany, began developing a way to use metal plates and paper to mass produce the Bible.
Hmmm there has got to be a way to mass produce books so many people can enjoy them.
Gutenberg used metal type, paper and ink and built a wooden printing press. His first Bible was completed in 1456 and mass distributed to Christians.
Gutenberg died in 1468 and his invention spread all through Europe and the world, dramatically changing how information was shared.
