Mr. Whitfield, your bank made a loan of twenty-five million dollars to Mr. Faulkner in an effort to save his enterprises. What prompted you to make that loan?
He was the husband of my only daughter. Her happiness has always been important to me.
Can you tell us why you left for California in such a hurry before the beginning of this trial?
The answer is obvious: my daughter was crushed by this sudden tragedy. I decided the necessary to take her away, to save her health and life.
You love your daughter profoundly. Then would you refuse to buy her the man she wanted?
