Paris Commune Comic by hoekstradan on 01-19-2010
Doug is asking Larry about why the Paris Commune was started.
So Larry, I overheard some co-workers talking about the Paris Commune in the lunch room. I was just wondering if you knew why this event occurred?
Oh yeah I learned about it in high school. The Paris Commune occurred because some people didn't like how King Louis XVI was ruling and what he was doing and they didn't think they could trust him.
Larry explains to Doug what happened in the Paris Commune
Oh I see now. Well what did the people do about it?
Some of the people formed a mob called the Paris Commune, or the Sans-Culottes, which are ordinary patriots without fine clothes, and they organized an attack on the royal palace and the Legislative Assembly.
The two are discussing whether the Paris Commune was Democratic or not
I see. Well this doesn't seem very Democratic to me.
Well you are right, but the attack was against the monarchy and the people of the Paris Commune wanted more freedom. So in a way the actual group of people of the Paris Commune were in favor of Democracy.
