Changes between 1793 and 1850 by bams630 on 10-18-2009
Yes I can! I'll tell you about canals!
Ok sounds great! Lets go!
Monday, October 20th, 1850
Hm. Is this a canal?
You are correct! This is one of many canals that were built in the 18th century. There were large bodies of water all around America, but there was no water connecting them, making it hard to sometimes get to where you needed to go. Canals solved this problem. A canal is a man-made body of water that connects one body of water to the next. Canals were a big help in transportation. Before canals, the only way to get somewhere was by horse! Canals helped the economy and helped the everyday workers and families by allowing people to bring things to places they had to go and let the people visit others further away.
That is all good to know for my article. Thank you! Any other major inventions for transportation that I should know about?
Well there is one other thing you might want to know. Let's go to the National Road, the first turnpike, and I will tell you all about it!
