Problems in Language & Literature: The Graphic Narrative by plumatica on 08-26-2009
This course examines the graphic narrative in terms of how each author/illustrator employs narrative elements—plotting and structure, characterization, dialogue mechanics, setting, tone, theme—as well as the values and visions expressed.
We will consider various genres of “picture writings” from which to appropriate storytelling techniques for our own literary work.

Schedule permitting, there will be creativity exercises at the beginning of each class, as well as a screening of at least one film based on one of the books below. As a final project, you will create a simple graphic (drawings, photography, collage, etc.) narrative of your own using the storytelling techniques discussed throughout the semester.
My stick figures illustrate the emptiness of my characters' lives.
Um, but this is a memoir.
You must arrive on time and stay until the end of class. Latecomers must wait until class to sign in or will be marked absent. Three latenesses equal one absence. An excused absence requires appropriate documentation from a physician or school authority. If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to obtain from your classmates any materials, announcements or assignments. I will not repeat lectures or class exercises.
Um, the cartoon dog in the red dress says to "please silence cellphones and put them away at the beginning of class.
...at the Restless Wind? No way! You serious?
