Then if they are part of a fully formed planet, how did they become so small?
That's the crazy part. That planet must have collided with another planet early in the history of the solar system.
So wait, two planets collided with each other and the fragments from that collision are what today we call processed meteorites?
That's right.
The material from the center is rich in metal, we call these dudes Iron meteorites, and the little guys from the mantle and crust of these doomed planets are called Stony meteorites.
