Analasys Of What Makes A Good Joke by Rexisfed on 02-03-2007
Hitler and Courtney Love meet on the moon.
A true joke does not derive its humor from the situation that the characters are in, but rather from an original and clever punchline.
That's what I was thinking, but then it hit me: some jokes do depend on the scenario. Obviously a joke about us being on the moon couldn't really happen if we weren't on the moon.
But what if it was a knock knock joke told by one of us on the moon? The moon could just be an optional detail thrown in to entertain the reader of the comic.
Well, but the environment that the characters are in affects the joke. If we were in the desert, we'd be getting hot and starving. If we were on the moon, we would be suffocating and dying.
