Animal Politics by Brownbridge on 12-01-2006
There was a commercial a year or so back, it was for some f#*king SUV company. The commercial shows this woman, driving an SUV across the rough terrain, over boulders and sh#t to the edge of a cliff. She opens up the hatch unloads a set of golf clubs and Peter Pans them off into the valley. She hops back in, pulls in the driveway and whos there waiting like a pussy? Her husband. She hands him the keys and walks away.
Heh, thats funny.
No, it's not funny. Do you think if we rearranged that little scenario it would receive the same amount of air play or treatment? The point is, it wouldn't even get made. What happens if the guy pulls up and starts dropping items from his wife's purse over the edge. Cell phone, lipstick, tampons, American Express. That guy would be considered abusive, controlling and a real dink. But for millions of viewers they come away with the message to buy a SUV, but don't realize that subconsciously their famlies are targeted by something bigger.
That's such bullsh#t.  I mean, I was watching TV the other day and I saw a Clorox 2 commercial, and it had some goofy song.  And you know what it said?
Removes rabbit feces from matted fur?
No, the song went: “Mama's got the magic, Mama's got the magic of Clorox 2”.  What the hell's up with that?  Why the f#*k doesn't Papa have the magic?  Because apparently Mama, after working an 8 hour day, not only has to come home to take care of the kids and make dinner, but apparently clean the house too. Sure, TV likes to stick it to the men: but, at the end of the day, it's still sexist.  Because it just shows that men can be stupid, fat, bald, ugly and unsuccessful, and yet still have wives who have to stand by their side every week as their husbands hatch yet another zany scheme to get ahead.   But God forbid those wives be anything less young and beautiful and smart and successful with perfect hourglass figures, because we don't want to see women like that.   But according to you, it's not such a big deal that women are forced to live in a male-dominated society where 95% of elected officials are men, because at least the car commercials portray them as strong-willed.
