Woodward and Bernstein: The Watergate Story by cmanktm8 on 02-12-2023
In June of 1972, two reporters for the Washington Post named Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein are assigned to cover the break-in at the Watergate Complex which housed the Democratic National Committee headquarters.
I can't believe that we were the ones to discover that the Secretary General was involved in this break-in.
This doesn't end here, I think it goes all the way up to the President. Nixon had to have known about the break in.
Bernstein and Woodward would continue their investigation, and released a book called "All the President's Men," making them celebrities overnight. Congress began looking deeper into Nixon's involvement.
The House Judiciary Committee is holding a hearing about Nixon's involvement. It's only a matter of time until they vote on impeachment.
Many Congressional leaders are turning against the President, he has little to no support for him during an impeachment vote.
President Nixon watched as the House moved closer to impeachment proceedings. He resigned on August 9, 1974. The following words are an actual quote from his resignation address to the nation.
"Therefore, I shall resign the Presidency effective at noon tomorrow. Vice President Ford will be sworn in as President at that hour in this office."
