| OK, class, today we're going to report on our Immersion Journalism projects. Who'd like to go first? Farris? | |
|
| For my Immersion Journalism project, I ditched school and went to Iraq with some money my parents had given me. They're both Iraqi and that helped me get a visa and pass as a native. I flew into Kuwait City and tried to take a taxi to Iraq, but was turned away at the border. When we got back, I balked at the $250 fare and the cab driver almost punched me out. Then I flew to Beirut and stayed at the home of some friends of my parents. I flew into Baghdad on Xmas Day. Once, I left my hotel to go to a shop to get some food. I don't speak Arabic, so I was using a phrase book. It drew a lot of attention, so I left. After my second night, I went to the office of the Associated Press. They contacted the American Embassy, and the 101st Airborne Division flew me home to Florida. | |
