Describing ethical dilemma when a child in the teacher's class never turn in homework and is either given a 0 or has to sit out at recess until work is completed |
| Teacher: Hello something is bothering me. I have a student in my class that never turns in homework and when I ask her about it she becomes real upset. | |
| Coworker: Have your tried reaching out to the parents to see if there is something going on at home and to make sure the parents are aware that she is not completing any assignment that are being sent home. | |

| No I have not tried to reach out to the parents. But I doubt they will answer. I wll try that first to make sure everything is ok and that I am not missin something. | |
| I think that is a great idea. Just that way you have documentation that you attempted to reach out to the parents in regards to this issue. | |

| Thank you for the advice. I will reach out on my break. I will get with the student as well and see if she might open up if there is something going on. | |
| Sounds great. Just remember the boundaries for what you would do at home to address a situation compared to how you should handle it from a professional point. Remember your limitation. | |
