New York Times vs United States by jadabeasley179 on 01-28-2022
The CIA was very angered to have their documents and files known as the pentagon papers exposed that contained all of the war crimes they had committed in other countries.
It is our duty to the American people to make sure that they are aware of what their taxes are going towards and what their government and military are doing. We are backed up by what they were doing in other countries including the coastal raids that happened in Vietnam and the marine corps attacks in small countries hurting civilians constantly.
What the government and military does is for the protection and in the good will of the American people we should not have to share every military action we take to help the American people and you had no right to share this vital information with them.
The Cia was very angered and to ensure that the New York Times did not again send out private documents they decided to take it to the Supreme court. The CIA was relying on the argument that their private files should remain private for the safety of the American people. The New York Times was depending on the argument of the first amendment.
We are protected under the first amendment of free speech. We should not in any way be censored because of the fact that the government wants to hide their heinous acts. We have full privilege with this information and with this information Americans know that what the military is doing is wrong. If there was any sort of justification for censoring us we would listen but unfortunately the only problem with our articles is that you would like to hide the true nature of our military.
We truly believe that if those papers and files had gotten to the American public that they would in fact be in danger and our sole purpose is to protect the American public from any and all threats. Our private files and battles should not be for the public and this establishment should be able to profit off of such things.
The supreme Court decided and their decision ruled in the favor of the New York Times.
We undestand and respect all of the decisions made by the Supreme Court.
The supreme court rules in favor of the New York Times because the United States does not have heavy enough justification to censor the press.
