The move from the South to the Project by baileymorris2000 on 04-22-2018
They are recruiting for work up North in Hanford, we can work and send money to our children.
We have to go for the pay that they are offering us for jobs that do not require education.
They arrived in Hanford about a week later.
While I'm glad we're making more money than back home, I don't feel too welcomed here since very few of the workers are African American. The community here feels very small and lonely.
It does not help that housing is still segregated and in such cramped quarters. And I cannot go buy lunch hardly anywhere as the business is for whites only.
The mess hall is probably your only bet. I wish they would let us have some alone time as a couple outside of work.
We are lucky to meet up like this off the clock. It's thanks to your biscuits that the guards will let us.
