CPR by sarah01bryant on 05-12-2017
CPR is the action of resuscitating the heart because it may have stopped for one of many reasons.
“It's far better to do something than to do nothing at all if you're fearful that your knowledge or abilities aren't 100 percent complete. Remember, the difference between doing something and doing nothing could be someone's life. ” (unit 8 page 9)
“Use your upper body weight (not just your arms) as you push straight down on (compress) the chest at least 2 inches (approximately 5 centimeters). Push hard at a rate of about 100 compressions a minute.” (Unit 8 page 11) This speed is also to the beat of staying alive, as taught at annual heart walk in downtown Columbus.
“If you're not trained in CPR, then provide hands-only CPR.” (Unit 8 page 9) This is the best advice I can give you because it is better to do what you know how to and just try to keep the person alive then try to learn on the spot of tho do mouth to mouth.
Unfortunately there is not a good ending to this story. My uncle was driving my aunt and himself home from my grandmas house when my aunt in mid sentence passed outt in the passengers seat. My uncle pulled over to the side of the road. He knew he had to do CPR but he hadn't been trained. Also he wasn't able to uncbuckle her seat belt and get her out of the car so he started compressions while she was still in the car. He did everything right and got her heart to beat again and keep the compressions going until an ambulance came. When the ambulance showed up they took my aunt and uncle straight to the hospital. She had had a massive heart attack. She was not able to recover her muscle and passed away in the hospital 5 days later.
