Philosophers and scientist in the world today are still recognized for their inventions and discoveries, new concepts sprung and eventually were seen as a threat to different religious groups, that wanted to prevent new ideas that might create a question of their authority. |

Scientists and philosophers foundation was a simple change in thoughts, norms, culture and life itself. The scientific revolution is thought to have began during the mid 1500s and early 1600s and then ended with the very well known, Isaac Newton who gave us the three Universal Laws, and invented the reflecting telescope. However information on philosophers can be found all the way back into Greek history, around 500-600 B.C. For example, Pythagoras, a mathematical philosopher who thought the deepest reality consisted of numbers or Thaleus who thought that all was made of water. |

Later on in science, becoming a philosopher had its cost; Christian Orthodox being the deity, the top of the powerhouse in most of these eras brought a challenge and threat to any type of offensiveness to the religion. A perfect example of this is the story of Giordano Bruno during the late 1500s who challenged the geocentric model held by the catholic church said in COSMOS written by Ann Druyan, Bruno was then charged for challenging the church and executed by burning, at the stake in the early 1600s. Despite it being dangerous to be a philosopher around the late 1500s, records hold at least 16 major philosophers whose philosophies are still alive and recognized today. On the contrary, many more were prosecuted, about 25+ philosophers were executed by the catholic church, like Hypatia of Alexandria, a woman, who was a philosopher and a mathematician and was hated and killed by a christian mob led by a bishop in March 415. Countless amounts of persecution cases are shown in the article The Persecution of Philosophers. |
