As the Lacks family gained more popularity for Henrietta's immortal cells, so did the the realization that theHospital was breaking many laws. With this, it is likely many more cases joined on to support the Lacks'.
The goverment was becoming aware and needed to make some fast improvements. The medicare and medicaid law was signed in 1965, which provided the elderly, disabled, and poor with full coverage healthcare. This was a start to making sure that the poor were seen as human patients in a hospital, rather than rats a lab.
In 2010, Obama signed the landmark health care legislation, this is what would give low to middle income household the ability to have healthcare, despite their age, race, and gender. Not only would it secure families, but it also allows all people legal protection to their health records, making it inaccessible by anyone other than you give permission to.
