Scenario 3 (Part1) by cyocton627 on 10-26-2016
A couple from England were talking to the AP in a school in Flushing, Queens~
Hi! Nihou~How may I help you today?
I was thinking of enrolling our teenage son in your chinese-English BILED program, so he couls learn Mandarin and use it to do business with China afeter he graduates from college~
I don't think our son needs to learn Mandarin because USA is an English-speaking country, just like the Great Britains.
Yes. Madarin is a highly-demanding language now because China's economy is blooming~Yet, I think your son may have some difficulty in our Chinese Dual Language program because hald of the school time is devoted to learnign content subjects in Mandarin. If he doesn't have an intermediate level of proficiency in MAndarin, it'll be difficult for him to undersatnd classroom talk.
We've learned English ebcause of the natural exposure in our living enviroment. I think he may be able to pick up Mandarin naturally by immersing in the Mandarin speaking environment with Chineseteachers and peers.
Oh, this is a risky thought! Your son has already passed the critical period to learn a new language. Especially, the content courses are instructued with Academic Mandarin, many Chinese technical terms required not just literal meaning undersatndg, but also their content-specific connotations and cultrual-realted meanings as well. I suggest you let your child select Mandarin as his foreign language course as we have a Chinese lanauge program here eunning from level 1 to level 6. Your child may start from the beginning level~
